
Custom Magnetic
Devices

Our
expertise in magnetic engineering allows us to model, design, fabricate, and
test many different novel devices based upon permanent magnets (PM),
electromagnets (EM), and hybrids using both PM and EM components. One example is a patented linear dispersion mass
spectrometer magnet. Unlike typical
magnets used in mass spectrometers, the magnetic field distribution has been
designed to disperse at its output plane the ions passing through the magnet
in a linear fashion as a function of the ion mass. This permits a detector with evenly spaced
collection traps to collect the ions.
This can greatly simplify and reduce the cost of the detector system. Other examples of devices we have designed and built
include PM/EM hybrid drivers for scanning mirrors and ultra-compact nuclear
magnetic resonance (NMR) magnet devices.
