Airborne Laser Program

STI is proud to be part of the Airborne Laser Test Bed (ALTB) program sponsored by the U.S. Air Force.  ALTB is a megawatt-class chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) that flies in a Boeing 747 aircraft.  It is designed to shoot down theater ballistic missiles in the boost phase.  As a subcontractor to Northrop-Grumman Space Technology (NGST) (formerly TRW), STI designed and delivered key components for the COIL.  Our uniform droplet oxygen generation (UDOG) technology is an enabling technology that significantly improves the efficiency of the laser.  The ALTB has successfully shot down test missiles in flight.

STI has its own laboratory for testing UDOG and COIL-related technology and hardware.  This is available for other program efforts related to COIL.

STI is also proud to have received several awards from NGST for our work on the Airborne Laser (ABL) program.  These include:

NGST 2003 Silver Supplier

NGST 2002 Award of Recognition

NGST Outstanding Teammate Award

These awards are a testament to our company’s commitment to deliver high-quality products on time and on budget.
